BENGALURU: A probationary police sub-inspector (PSI) is expected to hit the ground running with a willingness to learn the basics, including solving crimes such as kidnap, blackmail and robbery, during the training period. Young PSI Siddarooda Bijjananavar was supposed to trod the same path. But he strayed away and that cost him dearly: He has now been arrested along with three others on charges of theft!
The Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested Bijjananavar, who was attached to Madiwala police station, along with constable Allabaksh Karaji, home guard Rajkishore, and businessman Bootapalli Dineshfor allegedly kidnapping a digital marketing executive, from whom they extorted crytocurrency to the tune of Rs 1.5 crore and Rs 20 lakh cash.Bijjananavar had joined the police force last year.
The four accused were packed off to Bengaluru Central Prison last Saturday.
In July this year, 28-year-old VS Kartik of HSR Layout filed a complaint with KG Halli police, saying some miscreants had kidnapped him on July 25 for money. Kartik is the director of a digital marketing firm named Viral Zone Media, which ropes in influencers to market products. Kartik stated in his complaint: “I receive my salary in US dollars. My childhood friend Vamshikrishna converts them into Indian currency on commission basis. On July 25, Vamshikrishna called and told me to join him for some business talks. I was taken in a car by him and others. Inside the vehicle, they forcefully transferred 1.8 lakh US dollars and Rs 20 lakh in Indian currency from my account to theirs. They demanded Rs 60 lakh more to release me. I assured them it could be arranged and took them to my relative’s house in Pillanna Garden. I went inside and explained my condition to them. When my relatives came out, they (the kidnappers) drove away.”
The case was transferred to CCB and a team from the economic offences wing took over the investigation. During the probe, police found there were four more persons in the gang and they had threatened Kartik by saying they were cops and would fix him up in a drug-peddling case.
