This year, Rain and snow continued to ravage Himalayan temple towns into May, causing extreme cold conditions, making heart attacks and lung problems the leading causes of fatalities.
As per figures, till Monday, 58 pilgrims have died during Kedarnath yatra. Data accessed by TOI shows the pilgrims who lost their lives were mostly from Bengal, Maharashtra, UP, MP and Gujarat.
More than 2,500 pilgrims were given oxygen as they struggled to breathe as they made their way to the shrine which is located at 11,775 feet.
