Ncb: NCB’s biggest LSD seizure: All you need to know about lysergic acid diethylamide | India News
LSD is an abbreviation of diethylamide lysergic acid. Categorized under hallucinogens, it is a synthetic chemical based drug, which is traded by painting it on paper half the size of a postage stamp.
These patches, which are odorless, colorless and tasteless, are then consumed by licking or swallowing. Previously used in the treatment of anxiety, depression, psychosomatic illness and addiction, LSD is a mind-altering drug.
Effect
LSD users tend to lose their sense of space, distance, and time which severely affects their judgment and behavior.
What does the law say?
LSD abuse is mostly prevalent among young people and can cause serious health problems.
Possession of 0.1 gram of LSD (approximately six patches), which is the commercial amount for a hallucinogenic drug, invites strong legal action under Narcotics and Psychotropics (NDPS) Act. This can lead to denial of guarantees and strict prison terms for people who trade or consume them.
NCB surgery for two weeks
A total of 14,961 stains were seized as part of the two-week operation and the stains were “gammagoblin and asura holy spirit” brands, the NCB said.
The NCB arrested six people after dismantling an international drug trafficking network that operated on the darknet and used cryptocurrencies to trade. The six suspects were students and young people looking to make ‘easy money’ by remaining anonymous in the deep layers of clandestine internet-based applications and messenger services such as WICKR.
The highest LSD seizure, according to the agency, has so far reached 5,000 traces Karnataka Police during 2021 and about the same number of blots by NCB Calcutta in 2022 in one operation.
